Lawrence Fellows in the Liberal Arts & Sciences
Goal: $3 million
Just as Lawrence students go out into the world and influence others
to see the arts in the liberal arts, to find new avenues of learning,
and to learn through collaboration, the Lawrence Fellows program does the
same for future educators.
Here’s how it works: Lawrence brings some of the brightest young
post-doctorate minds in the country to campus for a two- or three-year
appointment during which they teach courses, offer individualized instruction
opportunities to students, and continue their professional activities as
scholars and/or performers. Lawrence shares its light with these Fellows,
which they, in turn, share with students throughout their careers as
university faculty.
Fellows share their own unique light with Lawrence students,
faculty, and the community in fresh and exciting ways. In some
cases, we discover a Fellow who decides Lawrence is where he or she
wants to continue on a tenure track and, because we have essentially had
the benefit of a two-year job interview, we have great confidence in their
long-term future as Lawrence faculty.
The Lawrence Fellows program was initiated in 2005 and since then,
our goal has been to have 12 Fellows at Lawrence during each academic year.
