About More Light!

For generations “Light, More Light!” has described the essence of Lawrence University’s unique approach to higher education. In the established tradition of a nationally recognized liberal arts college, Lawrence’s light extends to our students, faculty, and the local and global community. As one student put it, “It’s not just about seeing the light … it’s about being the light.”

At a point in Lawrence’s history when we’re renowned as a model for individualized learning in an atmosphere that instills intellectual curiosity, it’s critical that we invest aggressively to keep the defining characteristics of our university strong. Lawrence has embarked on a $150 million capital campaign that ensures the vitality of the university and paves the way for continued innovation that expands our students’ minds and opportunities.

Four major priorities define the More Light! Campaign:

The Lawrence Fund The Lawrence Fund is nothing less than the lifeblood of our university. This annual fund makes it possible to offer financial aid, internship and international study opportunities to our students; it pays faculty salaries and enables faculty research and travel; it’s the source of funding for musical instruments, lab equipment, computers, library resources, and the kind of technology that keeps Lawrence on the cutting edge. In short, The Lawrence Fund helps define and shape every student’s experience at Lawrence.

Endowment This important permanent source of financial support results in endowed professorships, scholarships, new programming, collaborative opportunities and much more.

Capital Projects In short, we’re transforming the face of our campus with updated facilities, improved “inner workings” and the brand new Richard and Margot Warch Campus Center (you’ve got to see it to believe it).

New Initiatives When we talk about More Light!, we’re referring in large part to our new initiatives - programs like Lawrence Fellows and Posse that expand our tradition and enrich our students and faculty.
